Word-It! is a learning tool aimed for language students and designed on the concept of repeated retrieval. If a person is told that "Ti amo" means "I love you" in Italian, they will know what it means for a few days to a few weeks. The key to future recall, suggests a study from Washington University in St. Louis, is how often over time you actively practice retrieving that information from memory.

The application works much like a flash card game. What sets Word-It! apart is the ability to populate the word list with the words the user chooses. This means that he or she can use it as a textbook or language website companion indefinitely. Similar apps have preset content that once learned, the user no longer has any use for them. The user is then confronted with the choice to purchase more content or delete the app. Most language apps get removed from the app drawer.
