How can these codes be useful to me?
Individuals
Using a code is the most efficient way to transfer a diagnosis from one physician to another (especially if you don’t speak the same language). E.g. you are traveling abroad, something happens to you and you visit a local doctor. How much time you need to explain your medical record in another language? Then, you get a diagnosis from the local doctor and you want a second opinion from your regular doctor back home. Without codes it is much more difficult to do that.
