This app is designed to help guitarists of any level build licks, learn new scales and practice. You can use the scale playback function (the play button in the center of the right side circle) to help select an interesting scale to work with. The scale playback function allows you to hear the selected scale ascending and descending through one octave to give an idea of how the scale sounds. The notes from the selected scale will be displayed on the fret board display at the bottom of the screen. (root notes are highlighted) The fret board display is set up like standard tab format, meaning the fat string is on the bottom as it looks from the guitarist perspective while holding the guitar. The fret markers are also buttons that play the note they represent when touched to help with note choice. After selecting an interesting scale I recommend choosing short phrases from the available notes and practicing them along with the built-in metronome to improve accuracy and speed. The reason I suggest selecting short phrases is that it's more realistic than playing scales from top to bottom. Guitar solos are not composed of scales they are composed of short phrases (called LICKS) derived from scales. The metronome has 6 beat patterns to choose from and the tempo can be set between 50 and 240 beats per minute. This is a great way to expand your lick library.
